After the boom in Asteroid Mining, there was high demand for people to transport ore back to Vesisaari. Many enterprising individuals answered the call, and soon a robust transportation system was developed.
After rough working conditions and unfair pay, these individuals banded together to form a union called Metal Runners. They were able to negotiate for safer working conditions, standardization of ore processing and containment, and a percentage payment system.
Many Metal Runners spend long chunks of time in space, and take an extended break once a year.
