Moon Base Yski is a spaceport and ore processing plant built on Vesisaari‘s Moon. There are three main sections: a larger sealed dome section where humanoids can live and breathe, space docks, and a large ore processing plant.
Taking up about a quarter of the moon, it is the largest humanoid built structure that is not on Vesisaari.
Construction started in 5129 after the huge spike in mining provided by the invention of Lazers. The idea was to process unrefined ore as close to the source as possible, and increase the yields that asteroid minors took back to Vesisaari.
Construction completed in 5160, and it continues to operate to this day.
Typically, asteroid minors fly into port with their unprocessed ore, and an inspector pays them based on the quantity and quality of their ore. The ore is then transported to the processing plant. The refined ore is then packaged into crates, and moved back near the docks. Transporters colloquially called Metal Runners then can purchase the crates, which are then loaded onto their ships. Once arriving to Vesisaari, the transporters sell the crates with a healthy percentage added on top of what they paid.
A thriving community of shops, restaurants, hotels, and tourism exist in the sealed dome. Asteroid minors will rest on the moon in between jobs, often not returning to Vesisaari for months at a time. Metal Runners will also stay on the moon base, waiting for processed ore to be ready to transport. Tourists usually stick to the center of the moon base, away from the facilities geared towards ore processing.
