Lazers are hydrogen particles accelerated at insane speeds.
Lazers were invented in 5125 by wizards trying to find a way to win the Great Dragon War. With the abundance of water on Vesisaari, wizards attempted to find a way to use this resource in the war. They discovered they could split water into hydrogen and oxygen and tried shooting hydrogen out of a gun, but it was not effective. They thought if they could shoot the hydrogen faster, it might do more damage. Using electromagnetic coils they accelerated hydrogen to great speeds, and surprisingly found it created a “lazer beam” that had enough energy to cut through steel.
The wizards improved the process, gave it more power, and eventually created the first handheld lazer weapon.
After the Final Battle shocked the planet with the first ever nuclear explosion, wizards tried to find out why the nuclear reaction even happened in the first place. As of now, the exact reason is unknown, which partly led to the banning of all lazers over 5 Watts.
Besides being used for weapons, Lazers are of great use as tools to cut through just about any material. Everything from surgeries, to building, to Asteroid Mining became more efficient with the use of lazers instead of traditional means.
Many have accused the Federation of banning lazers as a political power grab and as a way to prevent political uprisings. However, such claims are not substantiated, and most of these claims come from Ravagers who benefitted greatly from the unregulated use of lazers for personal gain.
