After the invention of Firearms in 4980, monsters that previously were very difficult for humanoids to deal with became much easier prey. Owlbears, Trolls, Golems, Purple Worms, etc. all stopped being a threat to major metropolitan areas. Eventually dragons were targeted and began to be driven out from their turfs, but as a result they became more aggressive and started attacking humanoids more often.
In 5123, the metallic and chromatic dragons banned together and made a coordinated attack on Pekoni, killing hundreds of thousands and devastating the city. In response, humanoids banded together to fight against the dragons, and the Great Dragon War began.
Where automatic firearms started off as effective against lesser dragons, soon they began to evolve to have harder scales. The dragons wreaked havoc on more cities in the east of Kotiin, and many Easterners were forced to flee westward.
After two years of bitter fighting, the dragons were gaining more and more land in the east, and it looked like all of the East would soon be overridden with dragons. A frantic search started for a new weapon that could rival the powers of the dragons. In this desperation, wizards and mages discovered sub-atomic particles, and how hydrogen ions could be accelerated with magnetic fields to create beams of extremely high energy. These beams were then harnessed into a weapon dubbed a Lazer.
The first Lazer weapon proved extremely effective on the dragons, and the humanoids started gaining back ground in the east. More and more Lazer weapons were made, and soon a whole platoon was able to be equipped. Humanoids were able to gain back all the territory back to Pekoni, and looked to push the dragons all the way out of Kotiin.
The Final Battle
In 5125, the dragons mounted a massive attack with their largest numbers yet on Pekoni in what is now known as The Final Battle. While exact details are uncertain, historians believe that a dragon picked up a soldier with their Shield Emitter turned on, a solider’s Lazer beam hit that Shield, which resulted in a massive nuclear explosion that vaporized everyone and everything in a 50 mile radius.
Wizards were able to replicate and confirm that anytime a Lazer beam hits a shield spell, a nuclear explosion results.
After the Final Battle, dragons were never seen again, and are believed to be completely eradicated from Vesisaari. The two year war between humanoids and dragons ended in one day.
